Detailed Product Overview

The DT4261 is an industrial digital multimeter for service, maintenance and commissioning in electrical installations and industrial systems. It combines direct current measurement up to 10 A with clamp sensor support. DC voltage measurement up to CAT III 2000 V is available when used with the P2010 high voltage divider. Bluetooth communication is available via the Z3210 wireless adapter. 

The instrument performs AC, DC and combined AC+DC voltage measurements with True RMS evaluation up to 1000 V. Measurement functions include resistance, capacitance, frequency, diode test and continuity. Additional functions such as MIN/MAX/AVG recording, peak measurement, relative mode and data hold support troubleshooting tasks. It features a 6000 count display and safety ratings up to CAT III 1000 V and CAT IV 600 V. 

LoZ Voltage Mode

The DT4261 provides a dedicated LoZ voltage mode with reduced input impedance compared to the standard voltage measurement. In the standard voltage mode, the high input impedance places almost no load on the measurement point. Under certain installation conditions, such as parallel cable routing or long unterminated conductors, small capacitively coupled voltages can remain visible on a high-impedance instrument.

In LoZ mode, the reduced input impedance applies a defined load to the measurement point. Very weak or capacitively coupled voltages are more likely to collapse under this condition, while voltages with sufficient source capability remain stable. This supports clearer evaluation of the actual voltage condition in electrical installations. 

Current Measurement

For direct current measurement, the DT4261 provides a 10 A AC/DC input. A fuse check function is automatically performed when switching from clamp measurement to direct current measurement, verifying fuse continuity before measurement. 

When used with one of the three compatible HIOKI multi-range current clamps, the DT4261 supports AC current measurements from 10 A up to 1000 A. The 9010-50 covers measurement ranges from 10 A up to 500 A with a frequency bandwidth up to 1 kHz. The 9132-50 extends the measurement range from 20 A up to 1000 A with a frequency bandwidth up to 1 kHz. The 9018-50 covers ranges from 10 A up to 500 A and provides an extended frequency bandwidth up to 3 kHz with higher amplitude and phase accuracy compared to the 9010-50. 

All three current clamps provide a voltage output proportional to the measured current and are connected via the 9704 BNC adapter. When using one of these multi-range clamps, the corresponding measurement range is selected manually on the instrument to match the clamp setting. 

Wireless and PC Communication

With the optional Z3210 wireless adapter installed, the DT4261 enables Bluetooth communication with the free GENNECT Cross app for Android and iOS. Measured values can be transferred to a smartphone or tablet for documentation, evaluation and harmonic analysis of voltage signals, for example in power supply systems or photovoltaic inverters. 

Using the HID function of the Z3210, measured values can also be transferred directly into Excel templates or other applications. In HID mode, the adapter is recognized by the operating system as a Bluetooth keyboard. For PC-based applications, the DT4261 supports communication via the optional DT4900-01 USB Communication Pack. The optically isolated adapter enables USB connection to a Windows PC for data transfer and remote control of the instrument. Bluetooth communication via Z3210 and PC communication via DT4900-01 cannot be used simultaneously. 

Operational Safety and Robust Design

To prevent incorrectly inserted test leads, the DT4261 incorporates terminal shutters linked to the rotary switch. Depending on the selected measurement function, unused input terminals are mechanically blocked. Excessive input conditions are indicated by a red backlight. 

The instrument operates within an ambient temperature range of -25 °C to 65 °C and withstands drops onto concrete from a height of 1 m under specified test conditions. Automatic AC/DC voltage detection and visual HOLD indication support measurement tasks in industrial environments. 

The DT4261 is supplied with the L9300 test leads, rated for current measurements up to 10 A. The L9300 test leads feature integrated safety caps. The measurement category is adjusted by sliding the cap to change the exposed contact length. The permanent connection between cap and probe tip prevents removal or loss. 

The instrument is powered by three LR6 AA alkaline batteries and provides an operating time of up to 130 hours. When used with the Z3210 wireless adapter, operating time is typically up to 70 hours. Developed and manufactured in Japan, the DT4261 reflects HIOKI’s long-standing commitment to precision, reliability and controlled production quality.
